Texas Power Emergency Caused By Lack of Wind

This happened way back in February, and I'm surprised it wasn't reported here. Apparently, according to this Reuters Article, ERCOT, Texas' grid agency reported a Level 2 Emergency when low winds (production dropped from 1700Mw to 300Mw) + low temperatures (higher energy usage) combined. Emergency management of power was necessary to get past this 3 hour window of power fluctuation.

I'd have to agree with you - this is the type of site to hype an article about a 3 hour wind drop in texas. Too bad this wasn't reported earlier, there was a misinformed manafesto type guy that was insisting that wind didn't contribute at all to the electrical grid.

Really? I've read quite a bit on this site and I have yet to see anyone say that they don't contribute at all. That they are an unreliable source that needs back-up? Yes. That they tend to produce least when electricity is at peak demand? Seen that. But I've yet to see anyone say nothing.

Its there. Search on the id Formosa. You see a posting "visitor Challenge" blog. Its referenced elsewhere in his comments as well. BTW, so what if the summer is when wind is least. There are studies conducted by MIT that point that there are huge carbon benefit in the winter with wind generation because the coal plants don't have to operate at full capacity.
